Enchanted Rock

This weekend my friends and I road tripped to Enchanted Rock, near Fredericksburg. Enchanted Rock has always been on my list of places to visit so finally having the opportunity to check it out was breathtaking (literally). 


Lines weren't too long to enter the park and as soon as we entered, we started to hike to the summit. We couldn't have asked for better weather--it was sunny, 75°, and a little windy. 

I haven't been able to photograph a lot this semester (which is why there hasn't been any posts), so it was nice to let my camera breathe and take some pictures.

             
It took about twenty minutes to reach the top and it was beautiful! From the vernal pools to the view of the hill country, we sat down to take it all in. It was the perfect time to go, season-wise, with seeing bluebonnets and greenery amidst the rock. 

 

After a short break, we ventured off to the cave at the top of Enchanted Rock and soon found ourselves in a dark, chilly hole. The rock formation that led to the cave had the phrase "This way to Trippyland" written on it with an arrow pointing into the cave. Lovely, right? 

After more exploring (and picture taking), we walked to the other side of the rock and saw some more beautiful scenery. Afterwards we took what we thought was the easier way down (it wasn't), and eventually got to the trail and were on our way!

Taking On the Greenbelt

Being in such a wonderful city really makes me always want to do something fun and adventurous. So, naturally, waking up at 6:30 in the morning with a few friends and driving to the Greenbelt for pictures and some early morning hiking was the adventure I had in mind.

Going to the Greenbelt has been on my Austin bucket list for awhile now, specifically Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls. We finally found the right place to park...and began our hike. The scenery was beautiful, the weather wasn't hot (..yet), and the company was enjoyable! As we continued walking until we saw something that looked like an image I found on Google, we came across a large tree in a clearing. Just an ordinary large tree, that happened to have a ladder made out of tree branches on the side of it. How cool, right? Obviously we planned on climbing up the ladder, and so we did. So many pictures! 



We continued on the trail, asking people along the way if we were "getting closer," or if they "knew where Sculpture Falls was." One response was, "around 6.25" and the man continued on jogging. 6.25. That could be 6.25 miles, 6.25 minutes... You get the point. Little did we figure out until a little hike down the path, is that we were at 5.75, only .50 away from our destination. A light of hope entered our minds and we continued on, embracing the scenery around us.


Once we finally arrived, it was gorgeous. The water level was low (and much lower than the Google image showed) but despite that, the scenery made the long hike in a new pair of Chacos worth it. Seriously, if you have the chance to walk a bit (roughly 2 miles over some terrain) then go for it. You will not be disappointed! Of course I'm biased because I absolutely fell in love and took so many pictures... to the point that my friend Jeffrey had to let me borrow a back up memory card because I forgot mine! This hike was meant for photoshoot purposes but I definitely plan to be back for a nice hike or swim (once the water is higher of course).

Sunflower Fields and Graffiti Walls

Castle Hill is like one of those paintings that you stare at for several hours and still engages you. In this case, it is several graffiti walls that are constantly changing with artwork that you can't stop staring at. The panoramic picture above courtesy of my iPhone.

I've gone here a few times before but didn't really explore it as much as I did this time. Each time you can always find something puzzling, or an inspirational quote of some sort. This time a few friends and I climbed to the highest point and were able to see the UT tower, the Capitol, and the buildings downtown. All around were sunflowers which were appealing and a good photo op.

New Finds in Old Places

Yesterday I took pictures for another grad, Chelsea. She was a delight to photograph and we had a blast exploring Austin for great locations. We started out on campus and ended up finding new locations besides the usual Littlefield Fountain and Tower. We also went to Town Lake and the Austin postcard. Below are how a few of the pictures turned out.

Downtown Adventures

Megan and Cayla were a fun pair to shoot. I'm sad these two are graduating but can't wait to see what they go on to do. We started on campus then went downtown along Lady Bird Lake on a few bridges. We found a neat looking brick structure under a bridge and a lighthouse painted pole. We also went to the "i love you so much" sign on South Congress. Here's a few of the pictures from the shoot!

Camping

Sunsets. Stargazing. And of course, s'mores. This weekend, a group of Orientation Advisors went to Pace Bend Park for an exciting night of camping! We left Friday evening and stayed the night until Saturday morning. I've never done the whole sleep-in-a-tent camping experience so I had a blast!

One of the best parts? The scenery was absolutely beautiful (plus it is bluebonnet season) and I am so glad I had my camera with me. I had a great time and cannot wait until the next time we go! Check out more pictures below!
